Virtual Material Laboratory and Digital Material Library

2 Mei 2023

Material Laboratory

This is a lab facility provided by the Interior Design Department to support interior design learning for students. The lab facility provides various material samples needed in interior design that can be used by students to complement their interior design concepts. The lab also displays the students' work from several courses. Additionally, there are discussion areas and areas to learn about lighting and furniture design, specifically kitchen design through mock-ups at actual scale.

Digital Material Library

In the process of creating an object, the material used and its characteristics have always been an important aspect. To produce a distinctive product and spatial experience, it is essential to have a solid understanding of materials from the ground up. The Interior Design Laboratory's digital material library serves the teaching and learning process, both online and offline. Unlike traditional industrial materials, the library offers a wide range of natural and recycled-based materials, as well as student works. With hundreds of collections available, designers, students, and lecturers can make informed decisions in the design process. These materials can also be an excellent choice for any material-based methodological approach in design research.

Virtual Material Laboratory and Digital Material Library

This is an addition to the physical facilities of the Material laboratory. This facility was created in response to the pandemic situation which made it difficult for students to obtain material samples for their design assignments. This virtual facility can be used by students to obtain information about the materials available in the Lab's shelves. Through this virtual and interactive platform, students can virtually walk into the Lab and directly select the desired materials or material catalogues. Students can also discuss and collaborate virtually. The digital material facility is integrated with the virtual Material Laboratory to enable students to explore materials in a more detailed and in-depth manner.
