Summary

Rinda Hedwig is one of Bina Nusantara University’s (http://binus.ac.id) leading researchers with expertise in Laser Application and Computer Engineering. With more than 90 publications in reputable journals with h-index of 18 (https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=7801608688), she has been known by her colleagues as a researcher who likes to involve other researchers from different disciplines and levels ranging from young high school to advanced Ph.D. students.

People with disability and empowering the society, are some of the issues she is interested the most (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nNxsEXdMqo&t=95s). In 2017, Rinda and her students developed a sonar vision system to help people with low vision in doing navigation (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u7C6z0J9DE). 100 sonar visions have been produced and shared to the people in needs in Sumatera and Bali. Later in 2018, Rinda and her students also developed a local e-library based on Raspberry Pi for remote areas in Indonesia (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwvnNPDTH7o). This system has been spread widely in the area where there is no internet connection and unstable electricity power. The system has been installed in 15 remote villages in Aceh, North Sumatera, West Kalimantan, North Maluku, Bali, East Java, and Papua. The system is still in demand today for some more remote villages.

Her other interests expanded in many different areas such as developing a system of automated rice refill machine for the underprivileged family and an interactive room for down-syndrome children, which she created in 2022 (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgztF0CRWAY).  In the same year, together with her students, she built an automated traditional music player to attract young generation’s interest on Indonesian traditional music instruments (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ijv8md3UCw). She is also doing collaborative research to build a cooking robot which serves traditional cuisine (see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-KsPJu4DT0&t=77s). Her other leading research study contributes to Physics in plasma generation mechanism enhanced by using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy. She also received many research grants and awards for what she has done since 2011. She has many projects that is not all listed in here and you can contact her for further details.

In summary, she is one of the top researchers in Bina Nusantara University who becomes a model for others to follow her path in doing high impact research studies which can be applied in society.
