Summary

The application described is a product of a multidisciplinary research initiative aimed at enhancing the capabilities of general practitioners in Indonesia in managing pediatric skin diseases. Given the limited availability of pediatric dermatologists in the country and the frequent occurrence of misdiagnoses among child patients, this AI-driven technological innovation is particularly vital. The application serves two primary functions:

  1. Automatic Diagnosis System: Utilizing computational intelligence and AI-based algorithms, the application can automatically diagnose various skin conditions in pediatric patients. This feature is designed to aid general practitioners in making accurate and timely diagnoses, especially in children patient.
  2. Tele-medicine feature: It is intended to provide a platform of consultation between General Practitioner and Pediatric Dermatologist for advance case treatment, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care.

Since the intended technology will be implemented in the rural areas with many limitations on internet coverage and will be mostly implemented on mobile device, hence one of the main innovative research works behind this technology is on adopting edge computing and tiny AI on developing intelligence system in the low resource application.


This research and development project is a collaborative effort involving BINUS University, the Indonesian Society of Dermatology and Venereology (PERDOSKI), and PR Komputasi BRIN. It is funded by the RIIM BRIN Research Grant for the years 2024-2025, under the grant numbers 37/II.7/HK/2023 and 076/SK/PERDOSKI/V/24. The application is intended to address the critical gap in pediatric dermatology expertise in Indonesia and to improve the overall quality of care for children suffering from skin diseases.
